She is later discharged and horrified when she learns Geoff is now with Nicole and schemes to win him back.

Axel attends Nicole Franklin's house party and makes advances towards on to Belle Taylor but is rejected. He then finds Melody Jones crying in a bedroom and feigns an attempt to comfort her and attempts to rape her. When Geoff Campbell finds out what happened, he threatens Axel, who is later beaten up and found on the beach by Belle.
However, Kirsty does not tell Miles she is leaving and leaves him a goodbye letter. Viewers were not shown the full content of the goodbye letter. Hayes said it was good because she wrote a private goodbye letter to Quong Tart, and noted the personal element was best left between the two. After Miles chances of a family are again ruined, Miles loses control.

Martin, who has taught Science for a number of years at Summer Bay High is introduced when Sally Fletcher introduces him as the new deputy, replacing the departed Donald Fisher . Following Sally's stabbing at the hands of Johnny Cooper , Martin is appointed principal by the school board. One of his first acts is to hire Jazz Curtis as his secretary, after she blackmails him, after seeing him at an illegal fight Ric Dalby is involved in. After a clash with one of his former students, Kirsty, Martin hires her as Jazz's replacement.
Her main storyline arcs include a feud with her overprotective mother, Christine Jones and a relationship with Geoff Campbell . Melody is also admitted into a psychiatric clinic after Axel Hay assaults her and Christine tries to kidnap her. Dodwell said she carried out extensive research to help her portray the issue of mental health. She also found some of Melody's material challenging to play. In 2009, it was announced that Dodwell had decided to leave the serial and pursue further education overseas.
Characterisation and career
Miles had lost weight, cut his hair short and grew a beard. Off-screen Quong Tart had such a busy schedule that he lost weight. When he revealed his new look to producers, they were so impressed they decided to change Miles' image, because it suited the storyline. In October 2011, Quong Tart announced his departure from Home and Away. In one storyline Elliot sets puts the lives of Roman Harris , Nicole Franklin and Geoff Campbell in danger. Elliot blames Roman for his brother's death and warns Nicole that he wants revenge. Roman is left stranded in the bush while Nicole and Geoff become stranded on an island. James told a reporter from Inside Soap that Elliot causes Geoff injuries when he attacks him with a speargun.
He later takes in Melody Jones , though she makes life hard for Miles by causing chaos at the school formal and running away to Melbourne. In the latter storyline Miles and Charlie Buckton travel to Melbourne to search for Melody. The episodes marked the first time the cast had filmed in Melbourne. Location shoots took place at Queen Victoria Market, Docklands Studios Melbourne and St Kilda.

Melody started out as "well and has gone bad", whereas "most characters start out a lot of issues, then time in Summer Bay reforms them." Melody is later taken in by Miles Copeland . Melody's behaviour becomes a problem when she goes on a "downward spiral" and develops an attitude problem.
Things are made worse when Christine takes out an AVO against Geoff to prevent him from seeing Melody. In December 2007, it was announced that Celeste Dodwell had been cast as a "Summer Bay High student". Just three days earlier, Dodwell had finished her drama HSC and scored the highest mark in New South Wales.
